Never seen this before!
Go to 3 mins 15 sec and the song starts. The camera is mostly on Cliff, but we see plenty of the Shads too, especially during the instrumental break!

I had never seen this before either, thank you for the link! The caption says it's from a performance from 1967, but, looking at Hank's glasses, I think it's maybe from 1968.

Fortunately I had seen this clip a long time ago when I was trying to work out the bass part. I could hear that John was pushing the boundaries but watching his fingers here answered questions that my ears could not.

I noticed that too... he was wearing those oval shaped ones that he didn't seem to wear for very long. I would say 1968 as well (I think the only other place I have definitely seen him wearing these are the photos in 'Established 1958').

He could also be seen wearing them in the TV special "After Ten...Fellas Ten!".

...True. And I have a feeling he is wearing them in a photo that was used on the cover of 'Everything of Value'. Anyway, I get the impression that he maybe didn't like them much, as he can't have worn them for more than a year. I think the best ones he wore would be a toss up between the usual late Sixties specs and the 'Specs Appeal' Aviator style ones that he wore throughout the 1970s. Interestingly, he and Cliff often wore the same style.

In all my years i've never ever seen a photo of Hank without his glasses!
I wonder if he uses contact lens on days off?

I read somewhere years ago that he had either eye correction surgery or wore contact lenses, and his glasses were plain glass and only wore in public!

The best ones? Easy: the large aviators worn between c.1993-2012. I think they were specially designed. Horn-rims are horn-rims, but those aviators were individual and iconic.
