Well played, although the backing brass seems to take the whole thing over.

Well played, Steve. That's a great version & a great recording. I think the balance between instruments is fine. On this tune, it's a shared melody. Part of the time the 6 String Bass plays the lead roll, & then in other parts the brass takes over the lead & the Bass becomes part of the Rhythm section.
