Hi Jim,

Thank you much, those are great BTs.
I might speed it up a bit to make it more exciting.

Hi Alan, Jim,

I am going once again to ask for your expertise.
I just got the arm and unfortunately, the hole is a tiny bit smaller.
I am going to have to drill it.
I would appreciate if you could enlighten me on how to proceed.

I have just a basic drill with different sizes bits. Which one to use so as not to make the hole too big?.
Should I apply any silver layer inside the hole after the drilling?

Thank you much,
Abel

Hi Abel,
As mentioned in an earlier post, the difference in size is down to metric v imperial. I have a set of graded drill bits, so by inserting the round end of the drill bit (the end that goes into the chuck) into the hole in the arm that was fitted as standard, you’ll get the correct size. It should not fit the new arm as it will be a fraction tight and It’s a size 10 drill bit in my set.
I didn’t apply anything to the inside of the hole.

Hi Alan,

Of course, I thought it was going to be easy.
I got the drill bit stuck inside the hole. Can't remove it.
I am headed to the shop see if they can help.
I believe I used the right size bit as it would fit 1/4 way into the hole but no further.

Blessings,
Abel

Can you not put your drill in reverse to remove it? When you get it out, drill from the other side. By drilling from both sides, you should keep the new hole fairly tight.

Hi Alan,

That's exactly what I did.
I drilled half way on one side, and I reversed the drill motion it to remove it. That worked fine.
Than I started drilling on the other side, but I forgot to revert it to the correct drilling position and somehow it got stuck.

The origin of the problem is that … I was holding the arm assembly with my hand.

I almost broke my hand. Big mistake.

Thank you much for you help Alan,
Abel

Hi Alan. Jim,

I realize drilling was the easiest part.
Now the arm is too low.
You suggested a 1" spring or a coin, but I am afraid even that won't raise it enough (see the picture below).
I was thinking about putting a think and round rubber washer underneath the base of the unit, Is that Ok?

That was exactly what mine was like. I haven’t put in the larger spring yet, but I did put a U.K. 5 pence coin in. I placed the coin in the bottom, there was also a plastic washer (originally fitted) which I put at the top of the spring and it was perfect.
Use a capo to slacken off the strings and remove them from the bridge end, insert the coin and washer as I’ve mentioned and you’ll be surprised by how much it raises the action.
