The arm can also be bent into any shape that suits your purposes better, Abel.

That, in effect, is what the Atkins arm is all about. It started as a fixed (non-swivelling) fitment which took a diversion round the treble end of the bridge to allow palm-damping. Later, with the swivel function added, it allowed different amounts of leverage (with the principle of moments coming into play).

Bending the arm isn't difficult, but must be done carefully, in a vice (vise) with PLENTY of padding round the arm so as to prevent pitting and other surface damage.

I found a Deutsch Mark which is a very tiny bit thicker than the 5 Pence.
I'll follow your way, but I will need to get a capo.
Very good help from the Gretsch site. Is it in UK?
I might even post a song there.

Like you said, I will try to bend the arm as I don't like the shape of it with that deep at the end.
I'll try to make the whole arm parallel to the strings.

Hi all,

(I am afraid the Gretsch is too big for me)!

I just finished installing my Chet Atkins tremolo arm and it's just a tiny bit too low even though I added a coin
at the base of the unit and put the plastic washer at the top as suggested by Alan.
I might need to add another washer at the top.

It looks much the same as mine Abel, you can of course twist the arm by slackening off the grub screw and increase the end of the arm. If you get the bend (at the bridge) as low as you can, it will lift the end of the arm slightly. However, a slightly thicker washer/shim looks like it will do the trick.

Brilliant interpretation Abel - The Gretsch Streamliner although a cheap guitar, by Gretsch standards, is really nice to play and sounds great. I only paid a little over £400 for mine.
