I think you can not go wrong. I like my Mk2 (with EV speaker) for 38 years now, mainly because of the clean channel. And it gets along quite well with upstream effects.

Soundwise for me they have been the best. I have MkIII Simul Class and a DC5 but alas they are heavy beasts so I only use them occasionally, they live in my studio. What l like is that they can be set up with a very convincing Vox AC-30 sound as well as the classic Fender tone. They also do an excellent rock tone, listen to Carlo Santana. I saw The Shads using them in 1982 and they sounded terrific.
The quality and build is second to none, the big issue is the weight. :)
