Some of The Drifters' / The Shadows' BBC recordings from 1959 and 1960 have surfaced on the 2012 double CD on Rollercoaster Records "Let Me Tell You Baby...It's Called Rock 'N' Roll!". The tracks being: "Jet Black", "Driftin'", "Apache", "Quatermasster's Stores" (all with and without spoken introductions) and "Guitar Boogie".

John Beecher has many more....and all Master Tape quality. If issued, they would form a separate compilation. As RollerCoaster now owns the copyright, I think I can say with some degree of certainty, these tracks would not be available to use elsewhere...they are now for use exclusively by John Beecher / RollerCoaster.

I emailed John Beecher about this last October. This was his reply...

Yes Chris, we have planned this for some time but it is taking longer
than I would like. When it is available it will of course appear on our
website.

You probably know we released Cliff & The Drifers and The Shadows double
CD from BBC Saturday Club tapes.

But to whom does the copyright of the unreleased BBC radio recordings from 1963, 1964 and 1973/1974 and 1971/1972 (Marvin, Welch & Farrar) belong? Would that be the BBC themselves?

I could be wrong.....but I think that (as they were radio broadcasts & many remain unissued & the original tapes lost / destroyed) that they are now public domain up until c. 1966. Post 1966...yes, I think the copyright is still with the BBC. The BBC definitely no longer owns the copyright on the material that John Beecher has & he purchased the surviving master tapes direct from Bernie Andrews.

The only question is whether they are able to trace the tapes.

In worst case I could supply near mint copies of the BBC Transcription Discs for the two "Star Show" programmes featuring the Shadows (#20 and #24) where they perform Dance On, The Boys, Nivram and Foot Tapper.

Licorice features on 4 tracks (+ 2 others that might be considered as suitable to be used).
