Dave that sounds better to my ears.
The volume of the 4 heads can be halved on the Volante by pressing the buttons, however using MIDI it is possible to change the head volume of individual heads by sending a CC message 0 - 127 on the appropriate CC command numbers. The head spacing is adjustable as Dave says with a knob on the Volante , and have to use your ears and judgement.
You can adjust most of the setting using MIDI control, but appears the head spacing can only be adjusted in so far as selecteing the spacings available on front panel. There are 4 heads and each selectable for on or off and feedback whether that head is on or not.
There are only 8 user memory slots on front panel , but by using MIDI , that can be extended to 300 presets (in 3 banks) .
I have a Volante and am going to try MIDI control when I get my MIDI controller pedal in near future. I have selected the Morningstar MC6 as my choice of MIDI controller. Having watched a few videos on it , MICI looks quite easy.
