Just used the "Shazam" app on the sound file, and it identified it as "Shadoogie, by The Shadows", so top marks on the sound and arrangement. Great stuff!

Hello Spike,
I completely agree with Phil - terrific playing and sound on this great instrumental number.

One thing that I'd like to mention is something that I've discussed (sometimes heatedly!) with various club members is that at the start of each verse the 2nd note that Hank played was a B.

In the first line of the tab below I've shown below what is normally played.

The second line shows what I think Hank played - the second note being a B not an E

Hi Everyone, many thanks for your kind comments.

Roger, you are actually quite correct.

I did a spectral analysis of the first few notes shown here: https://app.box.com/s/j2l7t3k6hsaw7j3v9cg04pr8odqatm7s Time is along the horizontal axis (left to right) and frequency is on the vertical axis, increasing as you go up. The first 5 notes are indicated with vertical arrows and labelled 1 to 5 and the opening E note with a horizontal arrow. the short second note has no label, but clearly occurs at the same frequency as the B at note 5. So I reckon that Hank probably started with his index finger already on the B, played the opening E with a strong down stroke and then caught the B with the following upstroke.

Well spotted! If i can manage to get enthusiastic I might drop it in.

Paul.

Hello Paul,

Your spectrum analysis is very interesting.

I don't believe that striking the B was accidental because he plays that pattern every time that the main theme is played.
He plays it in the 1st and 3rd bar and in the 5th bar (chord of A) the first two notes being A E

Roger

That really is spot on.

Whom are we hearing on what bits? Lead, rhythm, bass and drums?

Hi Iain,

The backing was Shadows minus Hank, Gary did the high bits and the bits behind the drum solo and I did the main melody and and chunka-chunka-chuddely-chunka bits.

totally agree with Roger, it sounds stronger hitting the 5th rather than the octave, which a lot of people play,
