Jet Harris

Postby iefje » 18 Mar 2021, 13:20

Today it's ten years ago that Jet Harris left us. I have seen him multiple times during the last 25 years, as a special guest with the Local Heroes and during his own shows, backed by The Rapiers and The Shadowers. Also, I had the privilege to get his autograph personally on his latest album and to have pictures with him taken. Being a bass guitarist myself, he is one of my heroes and influences.

Yeah, time flies and all things must pass- doesn't seem so long that Jet was fronting The Shadows. Jet had an eventful life to say the least.

Gone but never forgotten
he inspired so many people to become bass players
he also wrote and played some great basslines on those early shadows tracks
a true pioneer of the bass guitar.

At the Medina Theatre, Newport, Isle of Wight in April 2006, Jet came on stage and played the first number dressed in a bright yellow chicken outfit! (Honest - I was in the audience). I do not know how Colin Pryce-Jones of the Rapiers, kept a straight face.

Kindest regards,
Christopher
