An important point you should understand with regard to heating pole pieces. Heat applied to magnets can and will result in loss of magnetism in varying degrees. Also the same will happen if the magnet is subjected to shock like tapping a pole piece to alter it’s location in the bobbin.

You can buy small neodymium circular magnets at 1, 2 or 3 mm thick very cheaply, and they just sit on top of the poles. I used this method with a few years ago on a Wilkinson Telecaster bridge pickup and it worked well. You just raise the poles either side of the high one.

Side note: Is the abbreviation "pups" common for "pickups"? In German, "pups" is an expression for unwanted flatulence. Sounds amusing. How about "PUs"?

You know how lazy we English are with slang Wolfgang. PUs is a perfectly good abbreviation, and is indeed frequently used. In the meantime some of us will continue to break wind in ignorance.
