Smiffy Goes To Burtonwood*

One of several collaborations I did with my old mate Steve Smith, Bristol's greatest Beatles fan.

(Sorry about the song, I know they hate the Beatles on here, but we never did any Shadows collaborations.)

Just for fun, we decided to mix it as if it had been recorded in 4-track just like the original; drums, rhythm and bass on the left, vocals in the middle and lead guitars on the right.

A motorway service station built on whats left of it. I remember it when it had runways, hangars and control tower still on it. Ah memories.
Great cover. Sounds very much like the original. Well done.

Burtonwood (I used to live about three miles away) is not "just outside" Manchester. It still exists as a village and is completely west of the M6.

I remember playing there, over fifty years ago, with a Liverpool country band. The officers' mess bar was interesting. It didn't matter what you wanted, it was either 25c or $1. Even a bottle of Champagne. It was a local tragedy when the USAAF decided they no longer needed that base.

The M6 wasnt there when my Mum was a storeswoman on the Base. She travelled in from Eccles every day by minibus with colleagues.
So the M6 divides Merseyside from Lancashire now? Probably. :D
