1978

Just found a load of Shadows pics from the Royal Albert Hall, 1978. Despite the fact that they seem to think it's 1977! Alan has a perm and is wearing shades and if you look closely, you can see that Hank's Roland guitar synth is on the stage behind him. Also, Brian has a beard too and he's using his Synare syndrums, which I think he only used on stage in '78. Mostly he used Pollard Syndrums.

Here's another one, definitely from '78 and labelled as such this time!

Great pictures, I have never seen those before! Hank wears two familiar jackets as well, one of which I have seen on the "Thank You Very Much" concert footage from the same year and both of them on the 1980 Rotterdam concert footage.

On one of the first set you can clearly see Cliff Hall which is a giveaway that it's not 1977.

That's not entirely correct, because although Francis Monkman played keyboards during the "20 Golden Dates" tour in the Spring of 1977, Cliff Hall played keyboards during the short tour in October, 1977.

True. But in this case these photos are certainly not from 1977 as I don't think Brian was using the Synare drums in '77 and I also don't think he had a beard. There are some nice pics from '77 on the Shadows Collectors Corner facebook page - including one in which Francis can be seen (albeit only just). I would recommend anyone on facebook to go over there and take a look... I know that a few here are already there!

There's about a month's worth of beard growth there.
