Sydney Shadow Music: Song Of The Month

This is a great tune and brilliantly played, but who's playing it?

Our annual Shadoz festival is held in June every year; this year we had Martin Cilia and his Atlantics sound heading the bill.

Hi Tony

My immediate reaction was that it sounds like Martin Cilia himself. It's a bit of a guess but am I right?

Cheers

No, it's not Martin Cilia.

I'll give you another clue: the composer/player lives in the Northern hemisphere. Not much of a clue but at least you know now it's not an Aussie.

That's Malcolm McEwen playing William Tells Mozart to Saber Dance - His own brilliant composition.

You're quite right Phil.

Malc's latest CD is fabulous, I have it and thoroughly recommend it for the original material and Malc's fantastic playing and production.

Query: Why do we pronouce "Mozart" as "Motes-art" because we don't say "Dote-zen" for "Dozen" do we ??

I agree Tony - All Macolm's recordings are great ! This one is my all time favorite of Malc's compositions - Strong enough for Hank or the Shads to record in my opinion.

The Motes-art thing - you are right that is how we pronounce it - never analysed it before ! strange thing the english language.

Having thoroughly enjoyed "William Tells Mozart to Sabre Dance" I just to check out his album. Every track is refreshingly different and every track is great. I've just downloaded the whole thing.

Hi Tony and Phil,

The word is pronounced Motes-art, because that is correct in the original language ie. NOT English and that is the conventional way that his name has always been pronounced. Some people also incorrectly pronounce it as Mo-Zart, which is even bloody worse.

Pat.

ps. Don't even get me started on words like Eye-Beetha (Ibiza)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

In German the letter z is sounded as ts. The t and s are both sounded as if you were pretending you were a snake with a stutter! So when we say his name it should be Mots art. I don't know the roots of the word dozen.
