Hi , Hanks first electric guitar was a Hofner congress(1957ish) costing 16 guineas, it started as a accoustic but he put a pick up on it, cheers Keith

Thanks Keith!

I think it was a Japanese made Guyatone LG50, re-named/re-badged as an Antoria by the British wholesale music dealer and importer (was that JT Coppock of Leeds?)

It was a solid body two pickup single cutaway job.

He did use a black American 'Vega' guitar he borrowed from Eddie Silver (1958), he bought it later on, and then sold it to Bruce

If Hank was here he'd probably say "Arthur"

If anyone's read 'The Shadows by Themselves', the book written with Royston Ellis in 1961, Hank mentions that the guitar now referred to as an Antoria was a 'Nanturia'. It obviously was a re-badged LG50, but which name is correct?

Hmm, I must have missed that bit. The book which was indeed ghost written by Royston Ellis, spells Hofner with a double f and refers to the Stratocaster's 'tremulo' arm!

I have the original book but can't find mention of the Nanturia (page No if poss), the LG50 was also called the Star EG80 i think, the importers seemed to use numerous names/Numbers. keith
