I think those guitars were Hofner Galaxys' Jim.

I believe the guitars are a version of the Hofner V3, probably around 1962. This was made before the Hofner 'Strat-a-like' model evolved into the more famous Galaxy range, which was a little more like the Hofner version of a Jaguar, having switches & knobs all over it. I had one of the earlier incarnations of the V3 in my teens. The words 'cheese' & 'cutter' come to mind.

Yes, I also think they are 'mark 2' V3 models, which came out before the Galaxie.

I also had an even earlier 'mark 1' V3 from about 1961, the body with the heavier rounded cutaways- mine had a good action though- I used to use it on gigs as a backup for my Burns Vibra Artiste. Blimey, now I think of it, that was 43 years ago!

I've seen quite a few of those 'Indo-Rock' bands on You Tube- some of those chaps were very capable and entertaining indeed- great stuff!

What a golden age of guitar instrumental music it was - world wide -from the time of Duane and Bert in about 1958- through 1960 and the Ventures, Shads etc then surf music up to about the end of 1963.....then suddenly you had grow your hair, be able to sing, maybe also play harmonica and maraccas, and throw away the echo box.... and trade your Fenders for Gretsches, Guilds etc...

That brings back memories for sure. I remember playing in this little club where we did a resident spot every weekend in the early sixties. I was around fifteen I think, doing Shads tunes of the day. This guy came up half way through the night and asked if he could play a number with the band with my guitar.
I thought: "Who's this old guy wanting to play in my band?" He was probably only around 20 but thats the way you see folk in your early teens. He played shadoogie and blew my playing to bits in a big way. But it was some early learning for me and gave me a chance to hear my Hofner V2(I think) being played live from the audience point of view. I can still remember walking back onto the stage feeling very humbled to resume playing with the band
It sure kept my feet on the ground.
