Hi Dave,

I am not telling, it's a secret! :D Nah, I'm only kidding hahaaa  It's a pleasure to share something with a pro like yourself

I managed to browse for your valvetronix VT30 Manual from the web. Both works similarly. In fact tonelab is also called Vox Valvetronix, it utilises 12AX7 vacuum tube on its preamp to create the response of tube amps. But there are differences on the control panel, VT30 doesn't have VR gain switch (which is a Valve Reactor Circuit) and Treble Boost from the effect panel (This doesn't sound like it says, it doesn't boost any treble but adds some sort of warm compression to the sound, weird!).

Here it is anyway:

Amp: I use AC15TB
Cabinet: Vox AC-30
Gain: 6
Treble: 5
Middle: 10
Bass: 0
Presence: 6
VR Gain: 10 (VT30 doesn't have this control)
CH Volume:10 (Your VT30 has a Master control that works similarly, I don't think it's 10 for VT30. maybe adjust it to your taste, I don't think it's critical)

And then on the effect panel I select Treble Bost(again VT30 doesn't have this effect.)
Drive:5
Tone:9
Level:5

That's about it. Those setting plus the Long Tom preamp should give a descent dry sound. I don't know how to explain it, but it barks or quacks  ..whatever you call it. ( to my ears anyway  )

The answer is yes, at least in my experience. Even though I play through my PC speakers (Altec Lansing) and get a very good sound (I plan to make a video soon and you will hear it,) I have also used the Ampworks through my Vox Cambridge 30 Twin Reverb, and it sounds awesome, much, much better than the amp itself sounds without the Ampworks !!!

Thanks guys, those settings that Robby posted are similar to the way I set up my Valvetronix tonewise, but I haven't tried those tone settings with the AC15TB - only the AC15 option. I didn't try those other parameters either so I'll investigate, thanks again. :D

Hi Robby,
You have some great sounds and justly applauded by everyone here - and me, I hasten to add.

Quick question, if I may? I'm slightly bemused by the sound you got on this track, because the video shows you playing with the neck pickup switch position but it sounds very much like the middle and I was wondering how you achieved that tone using the neck pickup.
I'd also like to know more about the guitar and its pickups if possible.

Great stuff and keep them coming.

Cheers,
Martyn

Martyn, in The Storm, Robby/Robbie's pickup switch is in the middle position, so he's playing with the middle pickup, not the neck pickup . . . Are we talking about the same video? :eh:

Robby/Robbie, judging by the way you bend your strings and wobble your trem bar, I'd say you using some lighter strings, perhaps 11's or even 10's . . . can you confirm please?

Hi Martyn,

You must be talking about Jack's Good. It is not a standard tone as I used an equalizer on my chain, and had the Dearmond 610 pedal slightly slided to the right. I was actually trying to achieve the original Krew Kats sound bit I wasn't successful

The strat was a '62 reissue with CS'54 pickups .

Hi Bojan,

I am using D'darrio EJ22 0.13 - 0.56 with wound 3rd.

Hi Robby,
Yes, I should have made that clear - it was the Jack's Good video I was referring to, and thanks for the added info re your guitar.
I have a Fender Volume/Tone pedal so do I presume the DeArmond 610 isn't the same type of device as I really like that tone and would like to produce a similar sound. Although it may not be the one you were aiming for it's still a great sound all the same.

Hi Bojan,

It's quiet a torture for the fingers though  but I am used to it now.

Hi Martyn,

I haven't tried Fender tone pedal, but I would assume if you leave it slided to the right a little bit, it will add some treble to your tone. Hope this helps.

Robby
