Check this out. The new WatKat . . . a Watkins Copycat in the form of a VST plugin!!
Made as a tribute to Charlie Watkins.

Free Download . . . Very cool !!! 8-)

I would agree that the Watkat is excellent, and free.

They also do a Roland RE201 plugin, the demo can be downloaded and tried
with no time limit, except there is a slightly annoying Hiss every 10 seconds.

Having said thet, the hiss does not get in the way of testing it.

The RE201 is very reasonable at 19 Euros, but it takes a while to learn how to use
it properly,I know because I bought it.

Both are recommended

On our French forum, one of our member (Christian) is now an expert with VSTs and has developped settings for "that sound" with very good results (and also for the Spotnicks sound). He keeps improving his work, and share it with other members. The only trouble is that you need to understand french !

Jonathan, there is a download version for Mac. Its the first download link on the WatKat website.

Here is what is says when you download the Mac version:

WatKat is a VST plugin for Mac OSX and needs a VST host program to be run.
Run the included package installer and let your host scan for new plugins.

Minimum computer configuration required:

– An Mac Intel or PowerPC G4/G5 with OSX from 10,4 or newer; a processor @ 500 Mhz
with 128 Mb of RAM and 1 Mb of free disk space.

I have no experience with Garage Band, but the best thing is to to try it !! :D
