It holds its own, people tell me it sounds OK and I have wondered whether to modify it. My decision is no, because anything I spend on it will be way out of proportion to its price. I don't think I will gig it a lot but I am very pleased to have snapped up what I reckon is a bargain, just as it is.

As someone who was at Watford and played on stage with Iain so I could hear and see the bass at close quarters, I can confirm that it sounds fine and looks good too.

Cheers.

After a few phonecalls I've located some Ryder electric guitars still left @ sale price in the Cowplain (Hants) shop; Telephone number 02392 261395, if anyone's still interested.

2 white Bass guitars @ £59.99 each
1 white Telecaster style @ £59.99
1 semi-acoustic,(double cutaway,f-hole, Gibson style) in Cherry red - was £140.00, now £92.99
(model number 5433)
1 vintage sunburst Les Paul style, was £99.99, now £66.59. (model number 5425)

For anyone in Scotland, the Sue Ryder shop in Dunblane had one red and one white strat-a-like in stock last week...

After finding the Tele model to be so good, I bought their Gold-top Les Paul model. The picture on the website doesn't do it justice: solid walnut, beautifully finished, another great player and under ninety quid! I already have three real (vintage) Gibsons, and this copy hasn't disappointed. What a bargain.

Managed to get hold of a (slightly secondhand) Ryder bass thanks to someone on the basschat forum.

All it needs is a decal with iain Purdon's signature and it'll be the Iain Purdon Signature Model.... Anyone know a source?

Ha ha, how to make it worthless in one stroke of the felt pen!

You should really get it signed by Sue Ryder's design consultant for all these guitars, none other than Mark Griffiths :)

Indeed! One of the reasons I wanted the red bass was because of Mark's appearance on the RVP with a Ryder bass. And the iain Purdon connection, of course...
