From “Steppin’ to the Shadows” 1989 Album. The Cliff Richard classic “Some People”
I first heard this song when I stopped for petrol at a service station on my way to a Shadows concert in Oxford back in 1989 . Another driver had the cassette tape (remember them) playing on his car stereo and I thought – That sounds like The Shadows why haven’t I got it??
Apparently it was the first day of release and I didn’t know.
It’s just one of those things that your brain remembers from 22 years ago as if were yesterday. The song stood out in my mind ever since.
A great period for the Shadows – Hank, Bruce, Brian, Alan Jones on base and Cliff Hall on Keyboards. Amazing concert at Oxford Apollo !
So this Cliff song in my opinion makes a great instrumental – so much so that Hank chose this Cliff one a few years before his solo album “Hank plays Cliff” in 1995 which is a brilliant album !
The bones of the Backing track came from a download from “Mastermix” for 75p - It was in the right key “F” and this Cliff version was the same format as The Shadows had used. The speed was a bit out to the Shadows version so this was corrected and the extra keyboards, guitars and effects added. (By Andrew my son)
I used my favourite EFTP echo 0-36 on the Alesis Q2. And 11-49 gauge Elixir strings.
Hope I’ve done it justice.
Cheers Phil.
