Perhaps the problem was that Dave Nicolson would only write the book, providing that it was a "Warts and all" account of Jet's life. I believe that Hank has had a similar offer but he was able to refuse and this book only goes to prove that Hank was right. Maybe this book was written to appeal to the voyeuristic nature of the "Great "British public, but in all honesty, I would doubt that this book would sell many copies beyond Shadows/Jet & Tony fans.

Phil....it was indeed intended to be a 'Warts and All' account. But, notwithstanding, the subject (viz: Jet) should 'deo facto' naturally have been allowed to at least view the text in advance and comment on it and to make suggestions for possible changes and indeed to either leave certain things out or to place things in context - or even to express his personal regrets / views etc., etc. For example, when I was doing my own little book on John Rostill I regularly sent drafts to Elsie Rostill and John's sisters also read what I had written - as did Bruce Welch. I always took their views into consideration and made changes as a result. If someone is writing an authorised biography (as Jet's would have been) then the subject would have a perfectly normal right to make changes to the text - or at least express reservations and suggest changes. An unauthorised book is a completely different scenario.

Hi,
for me it's the live performance that counts not what's done in the studio, a tone deaf out of tune musician can be made to sound like a star in a studio environment with all the tricks of the trade and electronic gadjetry at there disposal, iv'e witnessed it done.
Live performance is what counts, can they play whats heard on the record and Jet could, he was a virtuoso musician in my opinion unlike a lot of todays so called stars who's music recording is over produced then when you here it live ( Oh dear )
Jet will allways get my thumbs up and certainly as one of the best Bass guitarists to have lived.
RIP Jet

ian p hits the nail on the head with this reguarding recording jet was jet end of. with reguards to the writer of the book he seems to have lost the plot a bit concerning the ethics involved and acted in a dont give a s*** way. which seems a bit to normal these days. peter

I read this book over the last 24 hours and don't understand what all the fuss is about. In my view the most damning text is in the section of interviews with ex wives, friends and colleagues. Fair enough there are some pretty bad things in there but Jet won't be the first or the last to have travelled this path with it's terrible consequences and I still rate him for what he did for us musically, the man was human and had emotions and failings triggered by the betrayal of his first wife. Life goes on and Jet struggled to cope, but I will always admire him for what he brought to the music. That can never be erased, RIP Jet.

"Let them that have never sinned cast the first stones .... " (Jesus Christ)

For me I never knew Jet personally but it was the music that bought me to know him and the others and he was a big part of the early success and the sounds that were achieved so he should be judged on his musicianship first and foremost.

RIP Jet

Wasnt there a response on here some time ago from Dave Nicolson - or an associate - giving his side of the story regarding why Jet withdrew his support for this book. I know Jet made some statements at time which were the opposite of Dave Nicolson's response. I seem to remember that it was explained the book would go ahead to enable Dave Nicolson to recoup the costs he was left with after Jet with drew his finances!
