APPLEJACK 2011

Postby Stratpicker » 08 Sep 2011, 21:25

To possibly paraphrase what the wonderful and greatly missed Jet Harris might have said - “Here is one that nobody plays - - “
“Applejack” was Jet and Tonys last singles chart hit – Sept 63 where it made No 4.
This is not a straight copying of Jet’s track – I don’t have the kit to create a BT for that – its more of an Applejack 2011 “fun” version. I made the BT in Band In A Box. My grateful thanks to fellow Mancunian Dave Dixon for allowing me to “borrow” his midi Brass. BIAB won’t copy Tony’s drum solo, don’t expect it here- its just “RealDrums” having fun.
Usual kit – Brason Strat - Zoom2000EFTP Patch 11 – Cakewalk GTPro 2. Oldies but Goodies!

ian

Really enjoyed listening to your version of "Applejack" - it's years since I've heard it. If I remember rightly it was originally played by Jet on acoustic guitar?

Best wishes

Tony

THanks Tony.
Yes- the original was played on an acoustic. If you listen to the recorded sound of his guitar, it sounds really 'fat' and with long sustain, almost as if its on the point of feedback, if you know what I mean. I have no idea how they got that sound but I was totally unable to re-create anything like it so went for an "electric" version".
If the car is back from the Menders in time, I'll play it at Congleton on Saturday.
cheers

Nice version Ian of a tune that gets little attention.

I know just what you mean when you were talking about the sound achieved on the record from an acoustic, but your version is an excellent alternative.

Hi Ian - "Here is one that nobody plays" I can just hear Jet saying that ! Loved his dry wit on stage.
I must admit I didn't know that Jet played it on an acoustic -.You did a great job Ian - I think you're very good with that BIAB and the playing was spot on. I looked up the original on YouTube to remind myself
of the song . The one with the most hits is very distorted, Yours sounds so much better. - just by coincidence Chris Evans played Scarlet O'hara on his breakfast show this morning.
Enjoyed your version very much..
Cheers Phil

Ayup El Planto. First class old pal. It's times like these I wish I hadn't donated my guitars to the research institute for the can't be arsed.
:(

As ever first class bit of playing and, something different.

Cheers, Alan.
