If I recollect correctly, from being there when these models first came out, the original 'Black Bison' did have four pickups. I dont know why they say in the article that they were made in the USA, though ?

Awesome! Lovely to see it finished...

I recall seeing this on ebay at the time it first cropped up and feeling decidedly queasy, so it's great to see such a brilliant looking rebuild! ;)

Thanks for posting my original scan of the advert Bill! The previous owner of that guitar was obviously a Butcher by trade. Rumour has it that his head has been seen on a pike at the entrance to the town! As you all know (?) the original finish was eggshell/satin black - not gloss, although over the years they would get shiny from use. I had the privilege of fondling a new one in 1962! Earning £25 a month meant that I could never afford to buy one, so went for the secondhand Vibra Artiste instead! At £62 I had to buy it on Hire Purchase (as we did with everything in those days). It's equivalent in today's money is about £1,100! If anyone wants to restore the gold plating on theirs, see my new posting about it.

Cheers, Lionel
