WATKINS COPICAT GOLD demos . . . NOW AVAILABLE

Postby dave robinson » 20 Oct 2009, 13:33

For those interested, Alan Jackson and I have just finished the fine tuning of the Copicat Gold and have posted some demos here;

And a special one with the BT faded a few times towards the end, leaving the guitar naked - so to speak

Thanks Derek, I quite like it too.

I should have mentioned that it will be shipped with all of the programmes needed for the Shadows tunes, much the same as what the other companies are doing, with lists of advised patches per tune.
The patches are stored in memory but the machine can be used the same as a conventional echo unit, with the user having access to all the controls i.e. Volume / Tone / Speed / Echo type / Eco volume / WOW etc. If you don't want the hassle of setting it yourself 'on the fly', you just call up the patch in the same way a we use the Alesis/ Magicstomp etc and the parameters are all preset.

Hi all. Wow Dave what a sound and what fantastic playing. 'The Savage' says it all. Definitely the top Copycat.
Regards Geoff.

These new demos are much more convincing (soundwise) than the previous ones !

Sounds good, but at £875 (introductory offer of £100 off), it's a bit pricey.

One of the reasons for the improvement is the fact that I didn't quite understand that the differences in the three different Meazzi models was so critical. We've sorted that out now and I have had some invaluable help and advice from Alan Jackson who has done all of the programming, my input being on the 'fine tuning' and demo side of the project. This is nothing like the EFTP set up, as the virtual echo machines are programmed into the Copicat Gold, the timings of all of the heads are installed on each echo model, of which there are ten to choose from;

1 Original Watkins Copicat valve model
2 The 4 head IC model Copicat
3 Binson Echorec 2 Baby
4 Meazzi tape echo (the last 5 heads)
5 Roland 301
6 Roland 501
7 H|H Echo
8 Equal ratio echoes (various manafacturers)
9 Meazzi Model 2 Echomatic
10 Meazzi Model F

The user has control over the following - individual head selection/echo volume/ echo tone - bass and treble / speed/ wobble (wow) / repeats (regen) input gain / output gain.
If you know what you are doing, it's a serious bit of kit and produces some really fantastic sounds, but if you just want to play, the programmes are in there ready to use.

:o 'Pricey' doesn't even come close!
Maybe I'm living in the past when it comes down to what does or doesn't appear expensive, for even if it were half that amount I'd still be severely twitching in the wallet department. At a more reasonable (to me) price, surely there would be more potential buyers - or does everyone think the normal full £975 cost acceptable for an echo unit, albeit a good one?
Maybe its because of the investment incurred and they need to recover this and show a reasonable profit, but sadly it's well out of my reach, no matter the reasoning behind it's price structuring. I suppose you either can or can't afford something and that's that. :(

You know Martyn I think I'm living in the past also as regard to prices and wages,when I ask my Sons how much they earn I nearly fall off my chair, a friend came around yesterday and I said you look worn out he said when i came off my shift yesterday they asked me to stay on for one more to cover sick crew, but i got £400 for doing it, what I thought, but to him it was the norm, so to him this Echo Unit would be under a week's wage.........Thats why maybe we both need to catch up on the value of stuff, and what surplus cash people have to spend these days, I wish I could be part of it still ! :D
