Hi Matt,
I don't think that the original premise of the thread was to hound our 70+ heroes into making a new Shadows CD. We all know that is never going to happen. They have no need to prove anything to anyone. They richly deserve to feel free to pursue their own hobbies. interests, music etc as they see fit. I think that Tony was just bemoaning the fact that it was a great shame (because of inevitable personality clashes, internal politics / frictions etc) that the Shads only produced "Life Story" as a new track between the end of the 1990 tour and the end of the Cliff / Shadows reunion tours. Of course - they recorded new material (mostly the old faves revisited) for the latter. With sell out tours and massive renewed interest during 2004 / 5 they COULD have given the fans one last hurrah in the form of a new CD - but they decided against it - simply putting out a lot of the Rollover Records tracks yet again (+ "Life Story"). Many of us thought it was a shame.....but there we are. The other thing is the intransigence of the 'suits' and 'money men' at both EMI and the BBC who simply can't be bothered to put out unissued material that has been 'approved' (BBC) or good quality unissued archive material (EMI) or even a really comprehensive Box Set or series of archive CDs of material long ago approved by the Shadows (EMI again). As (I'll say it again) the VERY FIRST LP by a British group to top the LP charts - back in 1961 - I was genuinely appalled by EMI's complete and utter indifference to the 50th anniversary of this milestone - which should (IMHO) surely have been recognised / acknowledged in some way, shape or form....but no. The fantastic influence of the Shadows ignored by the music industry yet again. Oh well.....

Bests....Rob :D

I wholeheartedly endorse what Verrill Jnr said. What do we as fans want. I for one am totally happy to remember the great concerts I have been to over the years, the wonderful music the guys have played and to play my drums to the best of my ability in the style of two people who I personally revere, Tony and Brian.
I certainly have never expected new music from them, there would be those out there who would criticise it anyway, and with regard to the BBC and EMI the words flogging and dead horse come to mind.
I believe that it ain't gonna happen so let us all put to bed this pipe dream and enjoy what we have.

Well said Rob. The same can apply to last year being the 50th. anniversary of the release of Apache which started it all for the advent of high profile groups in rock music. EMI should take a good look at themselves, they should be thoroughly ashamed.

As the original poster, I can say categorically that the intention was not to agitate for a new Shadows CD; the intention was to draw attention to a "new" Shadows release...

For what it's worth, my view is that the Shadows should be allowed to enjoy retirement, doing what *they* want; if that involves making music, fine, but musically, they owe us nothing.

Well Said George! My sentiments exactly. A well deserved, happy and long retirement so they can all persue whatever they want. Although i do have one complaint regarding Cliff why oh why did he buy that fiesta red guitar! which by now has cost us all so much money in search for the holy grail.

Hi all,

I too wish them a happy retirement and I'm not hounding them to do anything, my beef is that nothing happened in the interim years from 1990 to 2004 prior to the Final Tour when fans were hoping for a new album, that's all.

Back to the original topic of this thread, I look forward to this release, especially the rare live tracks which I've actually got on cassette but in poor quality.

Obviously I wish The Shadows a happy retirement and with heartfelt thanks for all the pleasure they have given us over the years. I am not asking them to produce anything new, all I would like is an official release of the archived material and this would ensure a final pay day for all those involved with no new recording involved.
One of my other interests is 1960's British TV programmes. Although many are now available on official DVD, there are tales of archived material ending up in skips or being recorded over to save money. I would not wish this to happen to The Shadows unreleased material, but it will if EMI continue their un-helpful stance.

If my memory serves me well, The Shadows broke up in 1990 and didn't reform untill the 2004/2005 tours, so why would we expect an album when they (some) weren't talking to each other?

There are two separate issues being discussed, the period which Tony refers too (which in my view, was never a starter) and the release of some rare material which we know does exist. The latter even at this late stage, would be very welcome by most fans.
