Thanks, Ulrich. I thought that was probably the case.

A (full price) EMI LP which was only ever released on CD under the MfP imprint was "Another String Of Hot Hits".

No - it means that most of the tracks are just the usual studio versions of tracks you have several times over already.

Hello all - Does anyone know if this is the version of "Man Of Mystery" on the new CD, whatever its original source? Bruce is playing acoustic guitar.

I therefor wonder if the rights have been bought to release this material, or that it is a release to be classified in the grey area of official/unofficial.

Does anyone know if the rights to the 1962 live recordings have been bought by this record company?

After reading all the entries regarding this forthcoming CD I'm still wondering if the live tracks recorded at Paris are featuring Jet or Licorice or maybe even both. As there's the track Stranger On The Shore at least this one must feature Licorice, I can't remember that Jet used to play clarinet.
Who can help ?

Best regards

Here is what I wrote earlier about this :
The "Musicorama" was a radio show every tuesday (rest day for the normal Olympia program) on radio Europe 1. I remember I listened at home to the Shadows' one, but the sound was not very good as it was aired on LW (no FM at this time for E1).
A small record company bought the Musicorama tapes from E1 et issued some of the shows on CD, but not for the Shadows' one, as they couldn't get the rights. I know a few people who have bootleg copies, but I don't have one myself.

Rob said, a while ago:

After a year or two it became clear that it was the BBC themselves who blocked the release (the stumbling point being the potential use of the 'back up' masters made by the late Bernie Andrews. What priceless tapes they are...as the BBC had trashed their own tape archive for the period 1958 -1963!!!!!!). Those tapes were subsequently acquired to John Beecher at Rollercoaster Records. I tried to persuade both EMI to reactivate the project shortly before the Shadows toured in 2004 and 2005 and again when they toured with Cliff during 2009 / 10. But....of course...nothing happened. I hope John Beecher puts the material out on CD asap. So you see, everyone....this is what we've been up against all of these years.

Well, I feel the failure was EMI's and they certainly did not approach the project with the right kind of enthusiasm. Bernie was skeptical the first time around but they insisted he should copy everything so they could hear it all. There was a lot of material and it took him ages, because he was already suffering from Orthostatic Tremor Disease (something akin to Parkinsons which meant he could not stand for very long). But he did provide EMI with copies of most of the tapes, albeit not always in perfect quality. He did this on the undestanding that they would have to deal with him as well as the BBC in order to release them, and EMI agreed. They also agreed not to make copies of the CDs - a promise they did not keep, sending out copies to several people. Ultimately Bernie heard no more, but it became clear that EMI could not obtain clearances from ALL parties. The BBC claimed they were NOT the stumbling block. I tend to accept this because, so long as they get their share, they are generally happy to co-operate with major labels. I suspect the failure had more to do with sharing of the royalty with everyone resulting in lower income than that which some people felt they were entitled.

By the second time the project was considered, I had the tapes ... and when EMI got in touch I pretty much told them the same thing as Bernie, but also made it clear again that because they had cost me money (basically, I paid Bernie for them when the BBC reneged on a deal they had agreed to purchase all of his archive) there would have to be a producer royalty for Bernie's tapes to be released. This did not seem to be a problem and when they asked again for copies I made them available - not everything, and not complete versions, because I was wary of them handing them out again. Bernie said it would come to nothing again ... and he was right. We heard no more.

So, I decided to release this and other material when the copyright expired. We have been able to make much better transfers and have acquired other tapes and are still finding further ones in Bernie's (sadly, poorly-documented) archives. We have Bernie to thank for preserving such a large part of British radio history ... but much of what he kept was by chance or simply becasue he liked the music; thus we have some Shadows titles but not others!

I would be disappointed, but not surprised, if others who have acquired copies through EMI decided to release them.
