SUNNY AFTERNOON-HANK MARVIN VERSION

Postby Stratpicker » 22 Jan 2012, 20:12

First posting in quite a while and not the one I'd intended.
We have had a sudden family bereavement which took us all by surprise even though she was elderly – 100 years old in fact, and are all very much down in the dumps.
We thought that this tune epitomised her disposition and attitude to Life and so I set to this afternoon (sunny or not) to record this.
On my Yamaha APX3 direct to Cakewalk – no reverb or effects in the chain and just some “acoustic compression” effect added at final mixdown. I gave up trying to get anywhere near Hank's wonderful guitar sound so what you hear is what you get, I'm afraid.
BT is wonderful work by Gigi Ceresa- hopefully used with permission. Many thanks
Any changes in Hanks arrangement are purely down to Jelly Fingers on my part!

I'm sure that she would have appreciated that Ian - a very nice recording.

It was good to hear the guitar without the normal type of effects and I think that the acoustic suited the tune well.

Hi Ian - Very sorry to hear about your family Bereavement, 100 is an amazing age to get to but a big shock none the less.
Yes you have done a great job on Sunny afternoon - Nice attention to detail - there are some really tricky bits in there which you have played very well - Nice "Up front" clear recording. Full marks from me.
The BT actually came from a friend in Italy Gigi Ceresa off his "Lead wanted acoustic" album - We did a swap of CD's - I'm sure he would be very pleased with your end result.
All the best.. Phil

Hello All
Thanks for the kind comments.
Phil - The old grey cells got scrambled! I have changed the text and acknowledged Gigi's BT - I hope he likes the version I did.
cheers

Hi Ian
Sorry for your loss.

What a great version of the Kinks song. I haven't heard Hank's version, but yours is well played. Perhaps we can hear it live at the Congleton meet on March 3?

Regards

Hi Paul
I think that could be arranged - in exchange for a coconut slice - or two! :)
Your thoughts are much appreciated, my friends.
