Even the two Beatles that are still alive, are spinning in their graves.

That is really bad, I believe that Les chats Sauvage did not split up, they were the subject of a contract taken out by some of the groups who had had songs given that special treatment .
Anyway there are better covers of Beatles songs, http://youtu.be/QBG2Fpg1x-Q and that isn't one of them !!!

Entitled "La Maison du printemps" it was recorded by Tereza Kesovija.

Actually, "I Can't Forget" by the Shadows was also a cover version . . . :)

Who is the first artist to play and sing "I Can't Forget"?

In fact, Les Chats Sauvages didn't split immediatly when singer Dick Rivers left. He was replaced by Mike Shannon, they had then a hit with "Derniers baisers", a french cover of "Sealed with a kiss", but success quickly faded away, and they split in 1964.
He is the one who sings for this cover of "She loves you". I think Dick Rivers was a much better singer.

Mike Shannon made a few revival performances backed by Guitar Express for the Cliff and Shads French Fan Club Festival, such as in Versailles in 2003, with a repertoire based on Cliff and Shads tunes, with a mix of original english lyrics or french covers.

The original version of this song was sung by Beti Jurkovic

The Shadows were one of several international guests at the Split Music Festival, in Split, Croatia (former Yugoslavia) in 1967. Each original song, locally written, arranged, and performed, also had its international counterpart. The song "Bit ce kasno" (Z. Korpar - M. Perfiljeva - Z. Černjul) was the original domestic version, sung by Beti Jurkovic, and "I Can't Forget" was the Shadows version, arranged by Norrie Paramour, who conducted the orchestra in Split for the Shadows version.

The Shadows also perfomed the song that won the festival, called "Bit na moru"

It is erroneoulsy thought that the Shadows won the festival. In fact, as international guests, they were not in the competion at all, but the fact is that the song they performed did win the festival.

Having said that, I believe that if they had been in the competion, they probably would have won because both of their versions were (in my opinion) much better than the originals. :)

Many thanks for the information Bojan. I recall some discussion about this topic on the old Shadowmusic site. I think that Beti Jurkovic was a fine singer with a very powerful voice. Her performance is very dramatic and conveys the emotion contained in the original words - I remember the story behind it....very moving. The original arrangement is quite good. Norrie Paramor certainly rose to the challenge as his arrangement was even better. Add the voices and guitars of the Shadows....the result...magic!! i've always thought that this was one of the Shads best vocal performances & is still much underrated.

I have always had a fascination for "I can't forget". Have the words been translated from the original version and was the contest on TV?

Yes, the contest was on TV. I think it was early July, I was in Belgrade and watched the festival live on TV. I'm sure that the Croatian Broadcasting Company (HRT) should have that footage in their archives. The Split Festival was one of the biggest and most interesting in the fomer Yugoslavia, which was under very heavy infuence friom Italy, so festivals were very popular at that time.

Here is the translation literally:

You are going, leaving now
My whole life is suddenly empty
And the sea takes away ships
And life goes on, and that is all

You will go who knows where
You will have to leave everything behind
You won't know how the time of my life goes by, my love

You will search for a better world
You will only find an empty road
You will roam until you realize
That you are alone in this world

And one day, you will come home
Like an old ship returning to its port
And it will be too late
To bring back love to my life.

instro . . .

You will search for a better world
You will only find an empty road
You will roam until you realize
That you are alone in this world

And one day, you will come home
Like an old ship returning to its port
And it will be, oh it will be too late
To bring back love to my life.
