Dutch collector....it wasn't me :mrgreen:Neither Alfons ;)
The story in this advert shouts BS all over the place :!:
Reminds me about the time we had a Belgium echoguru from the states on this site....
On its own merits a nice guitar nothing more.

Tone wrote:Dave, it's just been relisted on eBay by the same seller with a Buy It Now Price of £6500. The description is exactly the same as in the first listing but with the additional comment quoted by Razzmatazz. Why wasn't this comment, although it doesn't mean much, included in the first listing (and note that the seller has misspelled "Farrar")?

So, a guitar which was sold for £2250 yesterday is today being sold by the same seller for £6500. Hmmmm........slightly odd to say the least.

Cheers.

Tony

OK thanks I have now found it. As Rob says it wreaks of BS. Stuart Duffey knows his stuff and I had the conversation with Hank about these guitars, no mention of this one . . . . BEWARE !

Nobody bought it at £6500 (no surprise there) so it's been relisted, still with the same Buy It Now price:

Have a look at the way the Seller has responded to questions and comments and form your own conclusions!

Cheers.

The pickups are so out of alignment with the strings that it looks as though the scratchplates have simply been fitted in the wrong positions. That could be addressed by a good luthier armed with a box of beech cocktail sticks and some superglue, but it inescapably suggests inexpert assembly from spare components (post 1970) rather than Buckhurst Hill's handiwork.

In turn, that militates against a 1966 date (not that such a date was ever the slightest bit likely in the first place).

Tone - this is the guy who recently advertised and sold an early split case Watkins Copicat that "Hank Marvin had used in 1968"! (Honest Guv'!)Does anyone know if Hank ever used a Copicat on stage - 1968 or otherwise? I would be EXTREMELY surprised if he did as it was such a clunky and noisy unit (OK-I've got two, but only for nostalgia's sake and I wouldn't touch them in the 60s!) This bloke claims his "Cousin" played at the same gig as Hank did (on many occasions!) and has a photo of him using two Copicats in series. I'm sure Charlie Watkins would have given his eye teeth for that sort of publicity! It also seems very unlikely that he would have used any that were probably 6 or 7 years old. I don't think Hank was down on his uppers then - I stand to be corrected if that was the case.

Anyway, this bloke has serious anger issues and takes great offence at anything percieved at criticism, (This is obvious in the link that Tone gave) so I had great fun exchanging emails with him just as a wind-up! It's probably safest not to touch any of his stuff with a barge pole!
Cheers, Lionel

Looking at this guitar it looks like one of those that were made up when Baldwin stopped production. They made as many as they could from the stock that was left and Jimmy Grant put them all in a furniture van and drove up the country selling them off. The Burns badge was available along with assorted pick ups and scratch plates but Baldwin would never have supplied Hank with one with Burns on. They removed the Burns nameplate, from the Shadows Guitars, at the earliest opportunity - when they guitars went back for service- and replaced them with a Baldwin badge. The pick ups also lead me to believe it is a guitar 'put' together.

HI

I've just had a look at the guy's q &a's on Ebay and he is living in cloud cuckoo land!! JIm Burns did not have any involvement with Baldwin after selling the company in 1965 and did not resurface in his own name until the Burns Flyte era. He claims Hank used it over a four year period. Well it wasn't any four year period that I saw Hank. He used only the white Marvin that was stolen in 1972 -73 and the green one. I saw them continually from 1966 right through until they were stolen and he only used ONE white Marvin. If the guy is really expecting people to believe the case is custom made then he really is taking the Michael. That looks like the cheapest Japanese case that was available from Antoria, Ibanez, suppliers, such as JT Coppock and JHS in the mid 1970's when I had my music shops.

Leave well alone!!
