Selector Switch connections on Vibra Artist

Postby Billyboygretsch » 11 Apr 2013, 15:16

Hope someone might be able to help. I disconnected the 3 way switch on my Vibra Artiste a couple of months back I marked with masking tape where the wires went on the switch. Unfortunately did not do a good job and tape has come detached so do not know which wires connect on which terminal. It is the switch with the bulbous housing and it is not clear like on a Telecaster 3 way switch. Any help much appreciated as do not want a shocking experience. I have to say the Vibra Artiste wiring is very complex and the pick up wires are as thin as the hair on my head and I am bald
Cheers

I replied (including diagram) to your post earlier on another board - did you see it?

Yes thanks for that Erik the problem is the terminals on the switch are very confusing may have to get a new switch but would prefer the original. Am not sure that the diagram you gave is a Vibra Artite set up. Thanks anyway

Here is the circuit diagram for the Artist and the early Vibra Artiste with the bulbous switch surround.

Which verifies the diagram I have sent - thanks Ray.

On the diagram in your pic it says: "The circuit originally imployed in the authors guitar". Just out of curiousity - what author/book would that be?

It is from a UK magazine called the Radio Constructor dated November 1966 and I am the author.

In those days there were no guitar magazines so to get an article published about modifications to an electric guitar I had to offer it to a magazine that dealt mainly with radio topics (other magazines of the time included 'Practical Wireless' and 'Wireless World'). I had added phase reversal and capacitor filtering to my Burns Artist so it seemed a good idea to include the word 'Electronics' in the title of the article.

It was my little 'first' in history - the first published article about the wiring of electric guitars!

I remember you've mentioned the first article a couple of times in the past, but I didn't know it was about the VA. Have you ever postede a readable pic/scan of the entire article here or elsewhere?

Thanks Ray for all the confirmations on the wiring diagram very useful. Just now need to sort out the connections on the switch itself hopefully will have this working ok soon. Cheers Bill
