Sir Duke (Video)

Postby Phil McGarrick » 10 Apr 2013, 09:28

"Sir Duke" is a song composed and performed by Stevie Wonder, from his 1976 album Songs in the Key of Life. Released as a single in 1977, The song was written in tribute to Duke Ellington, the influential jazz legend who had died in 1974.
This is an Instrumental cover using my Gibson 335 with a small amount of overdrive from a Carl Martin “PlexiTone” effects pedal and a short echo on Alesis Quadraverb Q2.patch 0-39 EFTP (No amp used)

The Backing track came from YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3vBh7KHX0s
Thanks to Karaoke Experience for the great BT.
The Tabs to the lower solo riff will be on my website free to download soon.
(The Higher solo riff is just an octave higher.)
Something a bit different this time but hoping you’ll like my attempt at a bit of Jazz :P
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil
I thought the Phil M signature guitar would have been a Red Strat.
Sir Duke makes for a good instro. Good one.
Regards Geoff.

Thanks Geoff, Fred Paul and Steve for your great comments-
Something a long way from Hanks sound but fun for the player just for a change.

Geoff the signature truss rod cover was a mad impulse buy on ebay when I first bought the guitar
I thought it was a good idea at the time. Pity Strat's don't have them LOL.

All the best.... Phil

Hi Phil
Quite different. Lovely sound from the 335 (should have kept my Epi 335 and re-pickuped it :( )
Not into Jazz as such but this isnt really and is well played as always. To my surprise I enjoyed it very much indeed.
cheers

Thank you very much Lynn, Ian and Steve for your nice replies. Very much appreciated.

Ian - I too am not into Jazz, but I reckon if you can hear the tune then it's not really Jazz. 8-)

Steve - I got the signature Truss rod cover from the US - Here is a link to their web site.
