Ampeg Split Sonic

Postby Billyboygretsch » 31 Jan 2014, 19:51

There is an Ampeg split sonic on e bay currently. It is finished in translucent red. I thought these were all red sunburst. Seller is certain it is not a refinish. Any thoughts on authenticity.

Do you mean the Baldwin Jazz Split Sound....? Lovely looking guitar - no idea if it's authentic. I wouldn't have thought so....

I can't spot the guitar on eBay, but the Ampeg-branded guitars were all Burns (pre-Baldwin) models, the deal having been done some time before the Baldwin sell-out.

Hi Jim it's a US listed item 121266132478 listed as Ampeg Burns of London 1962-63 guitar near mint condition. I thought the Ampeg deal started 63

Here it is.

Also spotted this:

I didn't know there were 12-string Baldwins apart from the Double Six - nor did I know some were made in Italy. Apologies if this is common knowledge.

Cheers,

Clive

Thanks for that. I saw the eBay auction via the URL posted in the next contribution.

The transparent cherry finish looks genuine enough - and similar to the finish used on most examples of the Nu-Sonic (guitar and bass).

Similar to the original Sonic and Artist, come to that.
