Girls Rockin'

Found this on youtube. Some very talented ladies here, although I obviously realise that simply playing fast doesn't necessarily mean it's good!

My favourites:

The girl with the Strat at 2.12

The girl who's really letting rip and shredding at about 3:00 - whilst another woman (possibly her mum!) is casually changing the sheets in the background!

The girl at 5.23. Awesome. I can hear Steve Vai in her playing. Shame about the poor background visuals!

Just found THIS info on her...

Argentinean guitar virtuoso Carina Alfie is one of South America's shining stars. Having spent the 1990s paving her way in the male-dominated rock world, Alfie persevered and honed an amazing guitar playing style. Her debut album, Aislomiento, was released in 1996 and it did impressively well in her native land. A year later, a chance meeting with Grammy Award-winning guitarist Steve Vai opened new doors for Alfie. She joined Vai and his band at a show in Buenos Aires and later dedicated a song to Vai on her 2000 release, Mundo Interior. In September of that year, Alfie joined Vai at his Mothership recording studio in Hollywood in preparation for a third album. At this time, she also befriended drummer Linda McDonald of the Los Angeles rock outfit Phantom Blue. The two struck up a friendship, which allowed Alfie to write and record with Phantom Blue. They were later featured on the 2001 various-artists compilation Warmth in the Wilderness: A Tribute to Jason Becker. Aside from her solo work, Alfie also works with the instrumental act Lunatycos.

I was right about the Steve Vai vibe, but hadn't realised she'd actually worked with him! Also had failed to make the Phantom Blue connection - a great band from the 90s. Got both their albums!

And she is playing a Vigier guitar, not a well known brand, but very high quality (and expensive) guitars made in France, which also make Strat style guitars (Expert models).

She is.

Here are a few of her comments:

Q : What is your favorite guitar?

Tina: My favorite guitar is the Vigier which you can see on my videos.

Q : How is the collaboration with Vigier?

Tina: There are no special collaboration. However, I was invited by Patrice Vigier to visit his factory. It was a great honor to meet him but there is currently no collaboration with Vigier as with any other brand of guitar.

I think these are my favourites:

Andreia Gomez:

Meghan Kerin:

Tina S:

Carina Alfie:

Jaqueline Mannering:

(Well I'm impressed anyway!!)

Nice to see a 7-stringer among them. On balance, I have to say that Carina Alfie's 'Shakti' is the most infectious, can't seem to get that one out of my head! But Tina S is probably the one who impresses the most. Having said all that, this video is still the one that makes me smile the most, as I can just imagine what she and her mother must be thinking...

Meghan: "For heaven's sake mum! Can't you do that later!"

Mum: "You lazy little madam! And turn that infernal racket down!!!"

Rock on, folks!!!!
