Bring back Benny Hill

Postby Goingdownslow » 25 Nov 2014, 18:12

Hi Everyone...this has driven me mad....took about 15 takes and it"s still got mistakes.....played at the recorded tempo....no digital trickery.......anyone who wants the BT I've done and fancies taking it on please let me know......I need a bottle of Fino to calm me down....

Loosely based on Chet Atkins Yakety Axe.....Chet didn't haven't any problems.....but then again I'm not Chet.....

anyway hope you find it fun......come on fingerpickers let's see what you can do.....

Very nice version, Paul – now do it again, AFTER that bottle of wine!

I play a slightly different arrangement of the same tune, plectrum, not finger-picking. Believe it or not, I think it's a bit easier to play with the BT speeded up a tad - possibly a finger-memory thing where the brain doesn't have time to think too much. Similarly with The Shadows' The Magic Doll – seems to flow more easily at a faster speed.

Hi Paul,
Another good 1  keep them coming.
Did you enjoy your 'Fino' and have you managed to calm down now?
Have you seen this with Chet Atkins and Roy Clark? I have seen a youtube clip where Roy Clark looks surprisingly like Benny Hill ripping away on his guitar, i just can't seem to find it at the moment.

Hope you enjoy

Before you put yourself through the stress of "Orange Blossom Special" Paul remember that Bo Winberg recorded the lead line with the backing slowed down!

Orange Blossom Special is, indeed a challenge. The problem is that I don't actually like the tune, so can't work up any enthusiasm to try to play it. Irrespective of how it was recorded though, I remember it being played, impeccably, at the speed of the record, by the lead guitarist of one of our 'rival' groups, back in the sixties.

Hi Rob....really good...better than my offering.....you've managed to get those extra and quick difficult notes in.....

the thing I found when trying to play this particular tune is that is is relentless in its demands....there isn't much respite and the chance of dropping mistakes is dead easy and you have to start all over again....

Regards, Paul....
