I have vague memories of a radio show which Val hosted which featured different guitar genres, jazz, pop, etc. Laurie Steele did the twangy pop stuff. Must have been the Light Programme.

I recall that one day in 1964, crucially just before Val started having hits with the Irish comedy songs, his Light Programme weekday morning radio programme featured the resident band (with Ike Isaacs) playing a version of The Rumble. The parts played as drum breaks on the Shadows' version were played on a low-pitched woodwind instrument (possibly a baritone sax).

[Tried to trace it on genome, but unsuccessful.]
