What other guitarists do you enjoy listening to or have seen?

I saw Carlos Santana a few years back now and was mesmerized by his playing and the feeling he puts in. Always liked Brian May and Mark Knopfler and have recently been getting in to Joe Bonamassa mainly as he has the biggest collection of old guitars and amps ever. I appreciate the likes of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani although not my taste their technique is great.

I think Eric Johnson is an excellent player.

He also talks interestingly here about his Fender Strat, with demonstrations

I was inspired to start playing the guitar by good old Bert Weedon when he appeared on The Five O'Clock Club in the early 60s with Pussy Cat Willum, Muriel Young etc. I collected a number of his records and albums and enjoyed playing them for a number of years.

HOWEVER, some time in the 1990s he appeared at The Civic Theatre, Chelmsford and I saw him play live for the first time. The evening was a total disappointment - he was well into his seventies by then & obviously past his best. He even had a music stand on stage holding the script of his life story!

I still love dear old Bert- much of his early stuff is still holding up OK to me...

I always felt his 'Ghost Train' from 1961 was a really good next step on from FBI- he really could play when he was in his prime..

As for other guitarists as well as Hank....get on youtube and start with Eddie Lang, Roy Smeck, Carl Kress and Dick McDounough and proceed from there!

Chet Atkins for me above all. Taste, tone, style, technical ability, melody; I could go on. I have pretty well everything he's done and this is all on a memory stick in the car and my hi-fi. With a random play setting I never get tired of listening to him.

David Gilmour and Ritchie Blackmore - both masters of technique and of melody... Both dedicated Stratocaster players and both British! Unfortunately I have never seen Glimour play live - but I was fortunate enough to see Blackmore play with Rainbow - he was absolutely nuts but it was the best live guitar sound I had ever heard.....until..... I went to see Dream Theater in Wolverhampton and witnessed the pure majesty of John Petrucci. That man has it all. Control, touch, power and supernatural technique.

Chet (of course),

Les Paul (of double course).

Jonathan Kreisman

Bucky Pizzarelli (get well soon, Bucky),

John Pizzarelli,

Lou Pallo,

Frank Vignola (and Vinnie Raniolo),

Duane (some of his stuff - not so much the Yep!, more the Because They're Young and Ballad Of Paladin sort of stuff),

Jeff Beck,

George Harrison,

Hans Hollestelle,

Kurt Froberg,

Nokie Edwards,

Los Straitjackets,

Johnny Smith,

Barney Kessel.

That'll do for starters (and a reasonably wide spread of genres).
