Mini Jack Plug for Burns Artiste

Postby Billyboygretsch » 19 Dec 2015, 16:49

Does anyone have a spare mini Jack plug for a Burns Artiste. I would prefer not to change it for a standard Jack as I would like it to be all original. On another I had I managed to fit the standard socket into the hole in the plate. However on this guitar the hole in the plate would need enlarging.
Thanks

You should be able to get them from electrical retailers like Maplins or hobby/model shop web sites

I doubt it. Maplins etc sell 3.5mm plugs and sockets, but Jim Burns used 1/8 inch (half the diameter of the standard quarter-inch) which were available then but are like hens teeth now.
Here's a pic that shows (top to bottom), quarter-inch, eighth-inch and 3.5mm

That's the one Ray. I had a socket on an Artiste bass and fortunately a standard Jack socket fitted the hole. On this new guitar I would have to make the hole bigger and am reluctant to do that. Do you want to sell yours ? I had one back in the 60s and hated that lead - wish I'd have kept it

There's something amiss here.... 1/8" converts to 3.175mm - which is smaller than 3.5mm.
The picture shows the 1.8* plug as being bigger in diameter than the 3.5mm.
Purely on the visual comparison it might well be a 3/16" diameter jack plug.

Sorry, Bill. I have plans to convert my Artist back to as close to original as possible so the plug will be needed.

The ones that Ecca has found look promising.

I think Ecca may be correct. Definitely bigger than 1/8th. I Get readings from my guage indicating 3/16th. Or 4.78 mm. O/D 8.3 and 7.7 on sockets so 0.6mm difference in overall diameter. I think I maybe able to screw the 1/4" one into the plastic. This will make life much easier. Will let you know outcome. Thanks for your help
