LE DIABLE EN MOI – a Rarity

Postby Stratpicker » 12 Jan 2016, 16:52

Another guitar Rarity.
Written by Jeff Parker of band “Les Bourgeois De Calais” for Matilda, a young French Shadows style guitarist, it was included on her “Get Moving” CD of 2005. Collaborating Artistes on that CD include Brian and Warren Bennett, Mark Griffiths, Ben Marvin and Dick Plant so the album may well have been recorded at Waffles or Honeyhill Studios – anyone confirm??
Excellent BT by my good friend and Warwick colleague, John Goacher.
Recorded with my reasonably priced guitar (lol) – Harley Benton ST-62 – Q2EFTP patch 30 - Joyo ACTone – into PC DAW. Thats it.
Fun tune to learn.

I hope you enjoy it.

Quality!
I've never heard this one before.
Superbly played Ian!
Some outstandingly great and classic 'Hank sounding bits' in there;
Firstly, at 2:14, and then 2:32-2:40.
A great backing track as well. Well done John!
Impressed, I listened to it a few times repeatedly!
I must get to one of those Warwick meets one day...
:)

Hi Steve
Many thanks for your very kind feedback. Much appreciated.
I agree that it does have several Hankisms :?: in the arrangement and I think that WAS the idea.
You'd be very welcome at Warwick. Crème d'menthe on draught!!
Cheers

Hi Ian and John,

I believe this tune has been played by "Les Players" from France and your version is just beautifully played and
your mastering of recording is impressive.

Blessings,
Abel

Not quite, in fact this tune has been composed for Matilda by Ian Peace and Jeff Parker, two english members from the french band "Les bourgeois de Calais".

Hi Abel - thank you for your very kind feedback.
Hi Didier - thank you too for the Ian Peace connection. I didn't find his name when researching this tune. Much appreciated.

Hi Didier, Ian,

So is it originally a French tune?
I thought it was part of the CD "Les Players" you sent me a while ago?.
It sure sounds like it.

Blessings,
Abel

Hi Abel
Maybe "Les Players" also recorded it, but I've only ever heard Matilda's recording. As far as I know the tune was written for her.

Hi Abel,

I have checked on the double CD which contains all of "Les Players" recordings, but this tune is not there. Looks like it's been composed for Matilda. And as It's been composed by two english people, Ian Peace and Jeff Parker, it can't be called a french tune !
Ian Peace is lead guitarist and Jeff Parker singer in the french band "Les Bourgeois de Calais".
