Entry of the Gladiators

Postby rogera » 12 Nov 2013, 21:20

Here's an oldie from Nero & the Gladiators. I never got to see them back in the 60s but I bet they put on a good show.

I haven't attempted any of their numbers before and I don't know what guitar was used for lead. I found that my DeArmond T400
sounded nearest and I used my AC15 and Q2 echo.

As you'll hear I 'borrowed' the original intro to help with the atmosphere.

Hope that you enjoy it and that it brings back a few memories

Hi Roger
very atmospheric sound and I love the sound of the DeArmond.
Tell me, cos I don't know - Did the Gladiators not have a rhythm guitarist? - I cant hear one, unless its very low in the mix.
Excellent
cheers

Hi Ian - glad that you liked it and that's a very interesting point regarding the rhythm guitarist.

I certainly can't hear any rhythm on the original but I feel sure that someone on the forum may have some info on this.

No, they didn't have a rhythm guitarist on 2 occasions when seen at a church hall in Barnet by other members of my band. Unfortunately my parents would not allow me to go because of the teddy boys there

I never forgave them for that, but they changed their mind fortunately when Sutch played there in September 1962!

That brought back some memories... it was the opening number for my teenage group The Zigzags from North Staffordshire. Went down a storm on our visit to Nottingham where we played at Glaisdale School on a Saturday night.
