I've just acquired a Cliff Richard UK Tour 1977 tour programme. (40 Golden Greats)

What I find especially interesting is that it includes two very recent photos that show both Hank and Bruce on stage with him. It is clearly 1977 because the band and backing singers are all wearing T-shirts with 'Cliff Richard Europe 77' emblazoned across them! So, could this have been rehearsals for the 1978 concerts, or did Hank and Bruce (and maybe Brian) join Cliff on stage? My guess is 'that the pics were taken in the spring of '77 and coincided with the 'Every Face Tells a Story' tour. Could they have been rehearsing for the 1978 reunion shows as early as this?

I shall post some pics later...

Cliff / Hank / Bruce 1977

My theory - arrived at as I was walking through the rain this afternoon - is that they are probably rehearsing 'End of the Show' ('Thank You Very Much'), as this was the only song performed by Cliff/Shadows/Cliff's band together at the 1978 reunion shows. I believe that Bruce owns the publishing rights to this song and so I can well imagine him taking it to Cliff/Hank/Brian and saying "We really should do this next year to close the show". I imagine they ran through it ASAP, as it was a brand new song for all of them, and then rehearsed it again early 1978. Cliff was probably rehearsing for his 1977 tour and said "Come along and we'll run through it." Just my theory.

I think it was an album launch at EMI and Hank and Bruce did a couple of numbers. No other significance.

Must have been the launch of either 'Every Face Tells a Story' or '40 Golden Greats'. I suspect the latter. Interesting. I have never heard about this before.

What a backing band, two drummers also!

Interesting article, thanks for posting.

I saw the show at the RAH and was surprised at the two drummers bit. Great band, great sound, and Cliff was in superb form. In addition to material from I'm Nearly Famous, Every Face Tells a Story and 40 Golden Greats, he also introduced three songs from the forthcoming Small Corners album.
