Given that this song was and probably still is very popular in India and among the Indian community over here, there is a good argument for putting 'Return to the Alamo' on all future Shadows 'best of' / 'Greatest Hits' compilations. It certainly shouldn't go unacknowledged.

Indeed... and the fact that Bruce's song is played in the same key further emphasises the similarity. A closet Motown fan? ;)

Well they only pinched the intro and the verse ...

... but that's not the point!

They shouldn't be pinching anything!!

In addition to what is mentioned already, someone has recently pointed this out to me, so I can't in all honesty take the credit for noticing...

53 seconds into The Shadows 'Return of the Alamo' is the same 5 steps down as Abba's 'Does Your Mother Know' - first heard at 26 seconds in the line 'can't take a chance on a chick like you'...

Listening to it, it is certainly true. As far as I recall, the ABBA song was released around 1978-1979, so definitely after Return to the Alamo. I can't say I noticed it at the time, but if I did, it had been completely forgotten until today! Have a listen and see what you think...
