Little B - Collard Greens and Black Eyed Peas

Hi - I was thinking about the Shads and the various influences in their sound and music.

Obviously there is a lot of rock and roll there and perhaps skiffle but I was also thinking that bee bop jazz was an influence, as this genre established a melody and then improvised around it, as Hank does.

Coincidentally I was then listening to a Bud Powell Blue Note jazz album and thought about how the track Collard Greens and Black Eyes Peas sounds very similar to a Shads track, Little B. So I suppose there must be a bee bop influence there.

My investigations reveal that said track was originally from 1954, so you're very probably right.
