:D Yes, we all have to be thanksful for this day 50 years ago.
Thank's to The Shadows; Hank, Bruce, Jet & Tony !

The Norwegian single was in yellow vinyl, which I have in frame on my wall.

And two other guitar instrumentals were also in the charts at about that time- Duane Eddy's 'Because they're Young, and the Ventures 'Walk Don't Run'...

Not wishing to start an argument please!!!- having used the 'V' word!!....but it was a golden era for our beloved guitar instrumental music, and it was very popular with many people then, not just guitarists!!

When I listen to 'Apache', it's my favourite Shads tune from the 60s. When I listen to 'Wonderful Land', it's my favourite Shads tune from the 60s!

Apache by the Shads is just perfect - I never tire of hearing it. It never ceases to amaze me that this was recorded by a bunch of teenagers...

Thanks for reminding us Jim. I was just turned 11 and at Scout Camp at Broadstone Warren in Sussex when Apache hit the charts. It made such a great impact on me, even at that age. Like Ken, I am never quite sure if I prefer the intro to Apache or Wonderful Land. They are both such wonderful records and both bring back great memories each time I hear them.

Apache was the first Shadows record I ever heard.

My friend Paul played it to me in early 1977 and I was hooked immediately. I borrowed Man of Mystery/The Stranger off a friend of my mum's and then bought The Shadows 20 Golden Greats. So, albeit 17 years late(r) - Apache started it all for me too! A shame their record company were slow off the mark in the US, as I firmly believe that it would have been a number 1 hit over there if it had come out before the rubbishy cover version that stole its thunder.

It still is the greatest guitar instrumental ever - from the greatest guitar instrumental group ever.

HAPPY 50th, Apache!

Chris
