Guitar tremolo

Can any body help, is it best to take the tremolo arm off when in a guitar case or will i damage the threds.
I have a case which will not close if i leave the arm on.

The logical course of action is to remove the tremolo arm Philip. I can't see why it would do any damage
to the thread.
You could, buy a case that allows the tremolo arm to be left in situ. That depends on your budget
and how inconvenient it is to remove the tremolo arm every time you put the guitar back in it's case.
And, of course, if it gets on your pip sufficiently to change the case. What guitar is it?

It depends on the guitar and the case. Burns cases with the shaped interior are designed to allow room for the arm to be left on in the normal position. With Strats, you can usually simply swing the arm around, pointing to the bottom of the guitar, and it will be okay. Bigsbys will also swing around to that lower position. The only guitars I have that require the arm to be removed before putting in a case are those with push-in trems.

I'm the same. I never take my tremolo arm off - I just switch it round to the end of the case, where it lays flat against the body.

I drilled a hole in my hard case so the arm could pop through. Handy for carrying as the case handle was broken.

Yes, I hate taking the trem. arm in & out, as I have a fear that it will gradually wear the threads in the block & I will end up with a trem. arm that swings around loose. I usually swing it round to the rear of the body, as the others recommend & it usually fits in a flat case OK.
Not sure how it would work with my Spanish Acoustic ? ........

I also turn the trem arm towards the bottom right corner of the case and close it on a vintage tweed strat case.
