Hi Dave ,

Great echo sound and tone but i think this echo sound and quality of playing on this sound file proves that feel and touch has a big part to play as well as the quality of the echo :D (1st class) . Nice one :D

My guess is that you have a demo unit of Charlie Hall's new echo unit.My guess is based upon that you hvae done demos for Charlie before in the past.

Whatever the gear Dave.....this has masterful touch, timing and nuance... And that you cannot replicate with hardware. Not wishing to get into the echo debate - just to pass my congratulations on a wonderful rendition...

Tony.

Thanks Keith, perhaps you can tell me what it needs to elevate it from 'almost' to the next level, I guess no one else has the answer. ;)

Hi Dave ,Its 99% spot on, You would need a 'TARDIS' back to Abbey Rd to achieve the extra 1% !! (it was that good),was i correct about the mac ?

Thank you guys for your kind and honest comments.
Keith was of course correct, I used the MAIN STAGE programme on my Apple Mac for my echo having discovered that it could be programmed a few months ago.
There is still a long way to go and it is certainly capable of achieving perfection as there is are so many parameters to tweak.
I actually recorded the tracks in LOGIC on the Mac and the same echo facility is in their to be added to your recorded tracks, although in MAIN STAGE you use the Mac as an FX machine just like the Tonelab , Zoom G7 and the like.
It is an expensive way of achieving this sound, as the Macbook Pro cost me £600 second hand and there is then the price of the software LOGIC PRO 9, but I had already bought an iMac four years ago and had this up and running on that machine in the house.
I purchased the dedicated Apogee GIO interface to connect my guitar the best way possible so that there was no latency, and I tried the Macbook Pro with this at a live gig a few weeks ago - it is astounding ! I was working with tracks as a solo performer and even had the old tube amps set up in MAIN STAGE for all the different music that I play, threy're all in there, every VOX, Fender, Marshall, Matchless, Boogie and more . . . . and they all sound spot on !

I was in the past sceptical that this was possible, but having Ecca once call me a Luddite decided to open up and explore the possibilities. I did that and will not be buying any more echo boxes, you guys have just confirmed that there is absolutely no need, which is what I was seeking.
Any negative comments following this post in my opinion are insignificant, as I needed the opinions of folks who listen with their ears rather than what's on the logo of the device or who did the programing.
Should anyone who uses or is intending to buy Apple Mac/Logic be interested in these sounds, I will happily give you the formula to use yourselves, although I will have to work out how it can be sent.
Thank you :)

That is great sound Dave and it's in a close vicinity of the original sound. I also use Logic Pro 9 (and Pro Tools 9), they are indeed very powerful systems, although I haven't tried what you did on this recording, it's indeed showing the capabilities of Logic is virtually limitless. Well Done!! :D

I'm struggling to understand why some thought that it had anything to do with Charlie Hall's new project.
It seems that the general thought is that nobody else has the intelligence to get anywhere near the sound around here. I believe a re-think is needed.
I used my ESE Echomatic as the guide for my echo spacings, which I actually believe to be as close as it gets, I didn't compare with EFTP spacings until after I was satisfied with the results, naturally the spacings are in the same ball park.
I have owned the Alesis Q2, Quadraverb GT, Zoom RFX2000, RFX2200, G71ut and the Yamaha Magicstomp, all with EFTP programmes and for me only the GT and Magicstomp give somewhere close to the correct guitar sound, the others may as well go in the bin if what you is seeking, is a true vintage electric guitar tone. That said, none of those come close to the ESE Echomatic straight through the Vox (or similar) amp. However, the Logic/MainStage programme does, if you know what to do with it, as have tried to illustrate with these tracks.

I may get some flack for saying this, though some may be brave enough to admit I'm right, but in the last ten years I/we have spent heavily in the belief that we were being guided the right way with the kit that has been on offer and used by Hank. It turns out that by his own admission, he isn't bothered about the old sound, which is apparent when listening to and watching him over the last few years. He is a great player and I love him to bits, but as a player myself I don't want to sound like the new Hank. We've had the all the echo machines, Kinman pickups, silly tremolo arm, and various amps thrown at us, only to find that our original kit that I chose to go back to did it better and REAL - it has to be what it is !

Robbie thanks for your kind words, I am not surprised that you have this kit already, it is reflected in your own fabulous sound.
