Hi Ian

I've enjoyed (and said so) your......shall we say......."unusual" treatments of old favourites, but it would have been a travesty to "muck about" with this one and you were dead right to give it the respect it deserves. Very well done.

How lucky we were in the 60s that artists who were often snootily dismissed as mere "beat groups" had access to great songs like this, and were well able to do them justice. Examples that spring to mind are The Four Pennies' "Juliet" and the "daddy of them all", the Hollies' "He Ain't Heavy........"

I'd also like to endorse your comment that our music isn't a competition. We do it to give pleasure to ourselves and others who share our tastes, and I've always been impressed by the complete lack of competitiveness or "one-upmanship" both on this site and at the clubs I've attended. I've noticed that on the rare occasions that there is any criticism from other members it is always mild and ALWAYS constructive. Long may it continue!

Hi Graham
What! Me, muck about?! Not with this one, although it has a slightly more gentle treatment and change of style than the original.
Its one of my Faves of the 60's. IMO the early 60's (60-66) was responsible for more classic pop music than any other time.
Funny you should mention The Four Pennies - I saw them around 1965 at a gig in (probably) Burnley/Preston area - they were chronic!! :D Must have seen them on a bad day.
cheers

The Four Pennies...aka The Lionel Morton Four.....before they had Juliet. They were resident at Mecca's Bolton Palais for a while and were truly appalling. TTT

Quite so - I too frequented the Palais on occasion - and the Beachcomber - and that terrible dive, The Boneyard. LOL! Ah, those were the days.

Superb playing as usual Ian. Totally agree with all the comments. I am going to see Gerry and Pacemakers at our local theatre on 14th March, if they are as good as The Searchers were a while ago it will be a good night.

Cheers
Brian.
