Hi Ian
I've enjoyed (and said so) your......shall we say......."unusual" treatments of old favourites, but it would have been a travesty to "muck about" with this one and you were dead right to give it the respect it deserves. Very well done.
How lucky we were in the 60s that artists who were often snootily dismissed as mere "beat groups" had access to great songs like this, and were well able to do them justice. Examples that spring to mind are The Four Pennies' "Juliet" and the "daddy of them all", the Hollies' "He Ain't Heavy........"
I'd also like to endorse your comment that our music isn't a competition. We do it to give pleasure to ourselves and others who share our tastes, and I've always been impressed by the complete lack of competitiveness or "one-upmanship" both on this site and at the clubs I've attended. I've noticed that on the rare occasions that there is any criticism from other members it is always mild and ALWAYS constructive. Long may it continue!
Graham
