Kosmos

I lied on my previous post. I'm doing 2 this year.

This one isn't as Shadows-related as Arizona!, being a pastiche of Telstar, but I suppose The Shads did cover Telstar so there is some connection.

It was done as an exercise in copying the Joe Meek sound more than anything else, so the playing might be a bit raggedy but I'm still quite pleased with it. It did make me very aware that, however "simple" the Telstar melody may be and whatever primitive studio equipment Meek had at his disposal, he captured a bit of magic that it's impossible to go back and reproduce.

Cheers

Just had a listen, I think you did a great job of capturing the Joe Meek feel in this, maybe some more echo & reverb in places would get it closer but to me it sounds great. :)

Thanks Dave! I'm still playing around with it but it's an interesting lesson in how having a bunch of technology at your fingertips doesn't necessarily make something any easier than it was 50+ years ago with whatever you could throw together.

Cheers

Ah, clever stuff!
VERY reminiscent of Telstar, of course, but that WAS the whole point.
The sound, ambiance, everything was perfect and it really took me back to sometime very early 63 when I bought this from Smiths Music Store in Monton, Eccles (remember that, Goingdownslow?) with some of my Christmas money.
Excellent!
cheers
