There have been several releases of Atlantis.
I think they are all based upon the same masters but messed around a bit.
Ours is based on the original vinyl version so I hope you like it.

Splendid. Exactly the tone I remember with that beautiful "growl".

Atlantis remains one of my all time favourite tunes. This version
is superb. Thanks for posting.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Gary and Alan

Thanks for your great feedback...many thanks on behalf of Paul.

Gary:
Me and Paul had to double check it this time because of what happened with Apache :)
However this is defintely Paul playing :)

Hi Spike, that's the late, great Barney my "Bostin'" dog. I remember telling you and Julia I'd lost him.
We were all in tears.

On the subject of Atlantis. many people quote Apache as their first favourite Shad's tune.
My abiding memory of Atlantis is a small café in Walsall sipping drinking chocolate and
playing Atlantis at three old pence a time on the jukebox.
That "Growl" I quoted earlier on that opening "C", and subsequent notes, is absolutely bang on in my opinion in Paul's recording.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for you kind comments!

Kevin, I am working on a new "audio essay" for the TVS site about the changeover from Strat to Burns. It will include a number of sound examples where I play the same tune on both Strat and Burns, both being tweaked to get as close as possible to the original recordings. Without giving too much away, the only tune where I can't yet decide which guitar was used is Theme for Young lovers. With all the others, direct comparison with the original makes it quite clear.

Regards,

Paul.

Hi Guys

Thanks very much for your feedback on what seems to be a few theories floating about on what guitar was used.
I asked Hank that question a few years back and he told me it was definitely a Fender.
He also told me he never used a Gretsch on Apache but the Fender with 13-56 strings.
I have a letter signed by him stating the string gauge.

I think Paul's sound file here supports Hanks comments as Paul most definitely used a Fender.
I had trouble telling the difference from the original.

Cheers
Spike
