Playing through Smartphone

On smaller Gigs or parties I sometimes use my iPhone as an effects device. So i need no amp, no computer, no echo machines, no pedals etc. I just need an iRig2 adapter for the AmpliTube software. And of course my guitar and any monitor or stereo device like available in living rooms.

I made a preset for something like Shadows sound (not perfect by far, I know) with the following virtual effects within the software: noise gate, compressor, Twin Reverb amp + Vox-cabinet (the Vox amp simulation itself, called "crunch", sounds not clean enough) and three delays for a multitap effect. The playbacks are also imported and running within the AmpliTube software.

This tune I recorded directly from the iPhone with no overdubs:

It's just amazing how technology has impacted our music isn't it? I've been using iPads for processor/effects/amp simulation for a few years, now, and the sounds I get are better than I used to get from the tons of analogue gear I used to carry around.

Hi nivramarvin

Very good sound in Apache.

You have placed some equalizer in the chain ?.
I'm trying to get the "THAT SOUND" with Amplitube 4 but I am still far from achieving.
I appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance.

How did you do this with all the backing instruments as well? All on the smartphone?

Yes Iain, within the Amplitube App there's an option to import the backing tracks. I had to put the volume of the playback to maximum.

Antonio, there's no equalizer in the chain. As mentioned above i used the simulation of a Fender Twin Reverb and a Vox-Cabinet. The settings of the Fender: Bright = off, Volume = 4 - 5, Treble = 3 - 4, Middle = 7 - 8, Bass = 7, Reverb = 0.

By the way, the software itself is free (AmpliTubeFREE), but not the iRig2-adapter (38 €) and some additional effects like NoiseGate (4 €, much better than the on-board-NoiseFilter), Chorus (3 €), TapeDelay, MesaBoogie Mk.4 + 4x12 Cabinet (10 €) and so on.
