The Rise and Fall of Flingel Bunt 2020

Hi all...

A first for me. I've decided to join the 21st Century and make one or two videos to join the international effort of relieving boredom during lockdown.

It's not perfect, but here's my version of Flingel Bunt, largely based on Hank and Ben's live version from the solo tours era, with a variation here or there.

The backing track is my own, made a couple of years ago. It's available for purchase if anyone's interested. Backing track enquiries can be sent to shadowinghank (AT) gmail.com.

Go easy on me! :D

Nice playing, Justin.

Let's hope that all of the current circumstances end as soon as possible and let us all get back to something a bit like normal (though I don't think they'll ever be exactly the same again).

Great looking video, by the way. Is this part of your stage set-up?

Thanks, Jim.

Great spot. Yes, that's a small selection of fixtures from my show rig. I'm lucky to have a near-white wall in my house which is great when programming the lights, but it also provides me a chance to shoot some beams up the wall and create a nice wash effect for something like this. It just means I have to commandeer the room for my own use for a while!

As you say, let's hope I can get back to using the lights for their proper purpose ASAP.

(EDIT: This is a single lighting preset, not programmed like the 'Shadowing Hank' show, which features multiple lighting changes in each tune.)

I'm hoping I can get to see you again at Hayling Island, if and that's a big if we are back to some sense of normality.

Cheers Steve, cheers Ken.

Ken, a date is in place for Hayling again but I'm holding fire on any announcements until we all know more about when we can hold live events again, and also because I can barely bring myself to think about work and the lost shows that were the diary. After an initial spell of inactivity, making videos is keeping me sane and driving me mad in equal measure - a lot like doing the shows!

Great version of one of my two favourite Shads tracks Justin, loved it.
I watch your promo quite often, and as it was made here in Blackpool
at Viva, when things get back as near to normality as will allow you to
tour your shows again. Do you have any plans to play Viva again?
Stay safe, stay optimistic, (you will be on the road again.)

Thanks, Norman.

Ah, so it's you who's driving up the hits! I'd love to return to Viva one day, but only in a paid capacity as opposed to the pay-to-play showcase setting which, in spite of great crowd reaction (for agents), got me a decent video and zero work. Not sure The Shads' music is the type of thing the glitzy Blackpool venues are after. They don't seem to want to give it a chance, it's not enough of an attraction to put bums on seats. They prefer Motown, Frankie Vallie and boy band tributes. Oh, and as posh as Viva's big screens are, they can't beat the synchronisation of my lighting rig. I'd love to get a show arranged in the NW. Recommendations of theatres gladly received! (No bigger than 300 capacity, minimum 100)
